It started with a napkin.

Two years ago, Taylor traveled out to Wyoming to capture a wedding video for her marketing agency, up in the mountains. Her parents, Dan and Teresa, tagged along for the trip to keep her company.

While they were there, they stayed in a small Airbnb. Two bedrooms, one bathroom, nothing extravagant. But it had a feel to it: clean, modern, almost like a little oasis, tucked into a town full of old, historic buildings. It stood out. In the best way.

One evening, relaxing on the front porch, Dan said out loud:

"How hard could it really be to build something like this?"

They had no idea what they were about to get themselves into.

They grabbed a napkin. Drew out the floor plan right there on the kitchen table. Started throwing out ideas: what they'd keep, what they'd change, what they'd do differently if it were theirs. It wasn't a business plan. It was just a family dreaming out loud.

The idea didn't stay on that porch. Somewhere on the long drive back, "wouldn't it be cool" turned into "let's actually look into this." They talked through where a build like that would really thrive: towns with the right feel, the right character, the right room for something modern and warm to stand out the way that little house had.

That conversation sent them into research mode, studying towns, studying cities, looking for the place that felt right. The first house they built sold before they were even finished and so did the second.

New Era Developments isn't just about the houses, even though the family is proud of every one of them. It's about the time: the long drives, the late-night conversations, the risk they took on each other before they ever took it on a bank.
